Ave Maria

This week Simon Says Stamp and Show ... Kings and Queens!  For details about this week's challenge, and some amazing inspiration from the design team, hop on over to the Simon Says Stamp blog!

Speaking of inspiration...I chose Mary, Queen of Heaven as my subject for this challenge.  This is my first attempt at altered canvas.  I started by giving the canvas a base coat of Gesso and then applied Adirondack Acrylic paints before the Gesso was completely dry.  Rather than brush it on, I pounced it to get more texture.  I printed a copy of the Ave Maria by Franz Schubert, tore out a section and applied distress ink before sticking it to the tacky canvas.  I did the same thing with the picture of Mary which is just printed on plain cardstock.  I covered the chipboard flourish with paper from an old dictionary and more DI.  Once the paper elements were stuck to the canvas I gave the whole thing a good coat of distress crackle in Clear Rock Candy.  A little more distress ink and some embellishments (also hit with crackle paint) and voila!  Not too bad for a first attempt.
