For it is by Grace you have been saved,
Through faith - and this not from yourselves,
IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD.
~Ephesians 2:8
On my walk with
the Lord, this is something I struggle with.
When I look in the mirror and see my faults, my shortcomings, my lack of
obedience, I often wonder why He would save someone like me.
Yet God
wants me to experience the richness of my salvation – the joy of perfect love-
and He requires no payment for it.
Salvation is a gift from my Heavenly Father, one that He gives freely to
me.
Our faith,
our conversions, and our eternal salvation are not anything we can earn. 2 Corinthians 5 tells us that we are a new
creation and as such we are to become ambassadors of Christ. St Paul goes on in verse 10 to tell us that “we are His workmanship. Created in Jesus
Christ for good works which God has prepared for us beforehand so that we would
walk in them.” We do this not simply
by intellectual exercise, but by becoming the righteousness of God in Him. We then do “good works” not by our own
natural talents, but by accepting God in our life and living accordingly.
So take
heart! For the salvation our Lord has
feely given us will lead us by faith to do His work in Christ Jesus. All we need do is be obedient – Salvation is already
ours!
