Love and Lace (and a little Steampunk)

Hey all, thanks for stopping by for a peek today!  I have another piece of altered art for you :)  I love creating something out of miscellaneous stuff I've got laying around in my craft room.

I got this little dress form at my lcs once upon a time thinking there'd be something I could use it for...

I started off by painting the form with Gesso and then an Acrylic paint in a copper color

Then I built the bodice using Ranger's Foil Tape Sheets cut into various shapes and then decorated with my dressmaker's pattern tracer, a ball point pen, and some stitching...

Painted over the foil with Adirondack alcohol ink in black, butterscotch and redpepper then burnished off with a bit of steel wool to give it a vintage look.

The back part of the skirt is a piece of brown velvet that came off an old bridesmaid's dress when I shortened it (I KNEW that dress would be useful someday...)
The lace is some vintage lace that my godmother gave me when she was cleaning out her sewing room - I have boxes of it! I attached all of the fabric with Thermotape or Ultimate Glue.

The base is actually just an old spool I had picked up at an antique store.  I have quite a few of them - they come in handy for all sorts of projects!

Finishing touches include a bow made from gold mesh ribbon (on the back) held in place by a corsage pin that I just poked through the ribbon and into the dress form then secured with a little extra glue.  The necklace is a typecharm with the inside painted copper and a tiny gear from Tim's collection glued on top.  The belt is also made from TH findings.

I'm entering this piece in Simon Says Stamp's Lace Love Challenge.

That's it from here for now - have a great day!

  11. Congratulations on your winning piece! Thank you for sharing the how to! I am smiling at the thought of using a bridesmaids dress! I just donated a bunch from my many stints as a bridesmaid that were taking up a lot of real estate in my closet! Love your piece and all the details. The lace is so pretty!
