Stop and consider God’s wonders
~Job 37:14
This week’s
scripture is from one of my favorite books of the Bible – Job. The devil caused Job a lot of problems and
while God allowed Job to suffer, He also stayed with him. Job learned many things from God during his
suffering – that even death could not separate him from God.
Let’s look
at this verse in context. Job has just
been through a myriad of awful events provoked by Satan – he loses everything -
his family, his wealth, even his own health.
His wife tells him “curse God and die” (2:9) but Job responds “we accept
good things from God, should we not accept evil?” (2:10). Some friends give him bad advice, yet nothing
can shake his faith in God.
Job does
question why God allows him to suffer and God reveals to him the majesty and
order of creation. Job, the innocent man
who has suffered is privileged with an extraordinary revelation of God’s wisdom
and His mystery. Job repents and
acknowledges God’s greatness.
14Listen Job! Stand Still!
Think about God’s wonderful works!
15You do not know how God controls the
clouds; how God causes the lightning to flash;
16how clouds stay in the sky: or the
wonderful works of God, whose knowledge is perfect.
God’s wonder is all around us, it never ceases to amaze me and I spend a
lot of the time in awe of what is before me – trees, animals, clouds, rain, and
all of nature. We cannot fathom what it
took for God to create this world for us, nor how or why he did it. Like Job, all we can do is believe and be
humbled.
Your challenge this week is to use this scripture or another verse to
create a project that represents God’s wonder.
