Two Girls at Play: Bible Verse Thursday ~ God's Delight

Good morning, dear ones! It's time for another Bible Verse Thursday at Our Daily Bread Designs Forum!

"The Lord your God is with you,

He is mighty to save.

He will take great delight in you,

He will quiet you with His love,

He will rejoice over you with singing."

Zephaniah 3:17

When I was growing up, I pictured God as a loving Father who was forgiving and merciful and who brought me closer to Him through Jesus. But as I realized how often I hurt Him by sinning, I through He must be growing weary of my constant need for forgiveness. That He would forgive me grudgingly "again".

While that may be the image that I projected on God, it is not the picture painted in the scriptures. God takes pleasure in us. He can't wait to give us more good things. He delights in our victories and is there for us in our disappointments.

We may wonder why He would bother when we continually make mistakes. Why would He delight in us? Tolerate maybe, but delight?! The truth is, He knew what our failures were when He called us to Him and He loved us anyway! Certainly we do things that disappoint our Father, but our actions do not change the fact that He loves and delights in us.

Psalm 18 implies that God delighted in David because he was good and faithful in all he did, yet we see in Psalm 51 that David is still confident in God's love even after his sin with Bathsheba.

Isn't it amazing to know that God's delight in us is not based on our actions or achievements, but simply on His unfailing and unalterable love for us? That what He does for us is not dutiful, but a delight?
